Cooper Thomson

Produced by Kevin Augunas, Cooper Thomson’s upcoming album is a mesmerizing collection of songs that has been described as Ticket to Ride-era Beatles played by the Velvet Underground and filtered through Otis Redding.

Searching for a great back-up band for the project, Augunas and Thomson decided to recruit the talents of acclaimed musician and cult favorite Richard Swift. The two flew up to Swift’s Oregon studio to spend eight solid days recording as much music as they could. Armed with a few reels of tape, a bunch of analogue recording equipment, some tube amps, a couple of beat-up guitars, and a make-shift drum kit that included a hand-me-down kick drum from the local high school band, they soon got down to the business of making one amazing record.

With Cooper Thomson taking the lead, Richard Swift in charge of making the background noise, and Kevin Augunas behind the console, they eventually ended their week and a day with a warm, moody, melodic, and ultimately unforgettable assortment of songs. Thomson and Augunas then returned to Los Angeles, where the two of them put the finishing touches on the tracks at Augunas’ Fairfax Studios. Adding their tremendous musicianship to the recording were the brilliant Greg Leisz (Wilco, Beck, Matthew Sweet), the legendary Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), and a fantastic horn section featuring Francisco Torres (The Brian Setzer Orchestra), Jason Freese (Green Day, Weezer, Feist), and Ron Blake (Poncho Sanchez, Ry Cooder).

Since tracking the album, Thomson has relocated from Los Angeles to New York City and will be playing a number of solo acoustic shows over the summer.
